Which info you should not include in your resume in 2023!

Updated: May 1, 2023

Having in mind the constant changes in trends and technological advancements, the standard for what should and should not be included in a resume can vary. During the latest years, there are certain types of information that should be avoided in order to ensure that your resume stands out to employers for the right reasons. While certain details may have been considered standard in the past, it is important to stay up-to-date.

Can you guess which information could you avoid or better we suggest you to avoid while writing you CV?

  • Address: There's no reason to add it in your CV unless you're expecting a letter or a package. Otherwise, just add your location to indicate your base or the location you're willing to move to for the needs of the job.

  • Personal Information: Avoid including personal information such as your marital status or your birthday. This information is no longer relevant and can be a potential source of discrimination.

  • High School Education: Most employers are more interested in your college education and work experience. So, make more room for more important information.

  • References: Avoid listing the contact details of your references on your resume. If an employer needs references, they will ask for them separately.

  • Hobbies and Interests: Don't get us wrong. It is great to have hobbies and interests. But it is unnecessary information when they are not related or they don't complement a professional skill that you own. Focus on highlighting the interests that are somehow relevant to the job you are applying for. For example its a good idea to add "photography" as a hobby when applying for a Graphics Designer job application, but "swimming". Hmm.. we don't think so.

It's important to keep in mind that the trends and expectations of resumes can vary depending on the industry, country, and company. Therefore, keep in mind that it is always recommended to research and tailor your resume to the job you are applying for.
